A short tour of Krakow?

Tour around the Kazimierz includes sightseeing the Jewish district which in the past was independent city separated from the Cracow by, now not existing creek of the Vistula river. During the tour you will see The Ethnographic museum, old City Hall, Wolnica Square, Corpus Christi Church and multiple of synagogues (including Temple synagogue, Kupa synagogue, Isaak’s synagogue, Old synagogue, High synagogue, Popper synagogue and Remuh synagogue), old walls of city Kazimierz, Museum of Municipal Engineering, New Square (with famous Zapiekanki to eat), and house where Helena Rubenstein was born.
Jewish district between 1941-1943. In 1941 Hitler’s occupant army created in the Krakow district Podgórze, a ghetto meant for Jewish people. Ghetto was surrounded by high wall with barbed wire on top. There were four gates leading inside, always guarded. Soon Ghetto become closed district and leaving it without pass would end up with death. At the end of 1942 German occupant started deporting habitants of Ghetto to Nazis death camps – Bełżec and Auschwitz-Birkenau. Those able to work, moved to transit camp in Krakow-Plaszow. Out of 70 000 people in Jewish community in Krakow only around 1000 survived the war.

First in Małopolska voivodship Factory of the Enamelware and Tin Products. It was founded in 1937 by Izrael Kohn, Wolf Glajtman and Michael Gutman. Located in the place of future Jewish Ghetto. After the city of Cracow was taken by the German occupants, the factory was overtaken by Oskar Schindler. He renamed the factory for “Deutsche Emailwaren Fabrik”. Since than the factory produced not only enamelware and tin products but also ammunition for Germany. At the beginning Schindler was hiring only polish workers but soon Jewish people became majority. During liquidation of the Ghetto, part of its habitants were moved to Plaszow working camp. Because of the Oscar Schindler efforts some of the workers were assigned to live in barracks on Zablocie street next to his factory. Soon Schindler evacuated his reinforcing factory to Czech Sudetes. He created so called “Schindler List” to rescue his workers. Only because of that, he was able to buy out and in fact rescue more than 1100 lives. Steven Spielberg created movie based on the story of Oskar Schindler.

German Nazi concentration camps, including the extermination camp in Auschwitz and the nearby village existing in the years 1940-1945, the symbol of the Holocaust. Also referred to as the “factory of death”. The only concentration camp, located on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is the largest urban center in the immediate vicinity of the Tatra Mountains. Zakopane is large winter sports resort. Informally called the winter capital of Poland. The administrative boundaries of the city is also a significant part of the Tatra National Park.
